Does depression qualify for long term disability?

Yes. Policies define disability by your inability to perform the duties of your occupation, not by whether the condition is physical. Depression that prevents you from working qualifies on the same terms as any other illness, and insurers who suggest otherwise are describing their preference rather than the policy.
