Motor Vehicle Accidents
A motor vehicle accident is when a road vehicle collides with another vehicle, pedestrian, animal, or geographical or architectural obstacle. A vehicle includes an automobile, a motorcycle, a motor-assisted bicycle and any other vehicle propelled or driven by any means other than human strength. A collision may involve a single vehicle or multiple vehicles. All parties involved do not have to be inside a motor vehicle for a motor vehicle accident to take place.
Slip and Fall Injuries
A slip and fall is a claim or case based on a person slipping (or tripping) and falling. It is a tort, and based on a claim that the property owner, occupier, or tenant was negligent in allowing some dangerous condition to exist that caused the person to slip or trip.
Motorcycle Accidents
A motorcycle accident is when a motorcycle collides with another vehicle, pedestrian, animal, or other geographical or architectural obstacle. A motorcycle is a self-propelled vehicle having a seat or saddle for the use of the driver and designed to travel on not more than three wheels in contact with the ground, and includes a motor scooter.
Traumatic Brain and Head Injuries
Traumatic brain injury (“TBI”) occurs when an outside force traumatically injures the brain. TBI can be classified based on severity, mechanism (closed or penetrating head injury), or other features (e.g. occurring in a specific location or over a widespread area). Head injury usually refers to TBI, but is a broader category because it can involve damage to structures other than the brain, such as the scalp and skull.
Medical Malpractice
Medical malpractice is professional negligence by act or omission by a health care provider in which care provided deviates from accepted standards of practice in the medical community and causes injury or death to the patient. Medical professionals are required to maintain professional liability insurance to offset the risk and costs of lawsuits based on medical malpractice.
Catastrophic Injuries
A catastrophic injury occurs when a person suffers paraplegia or quadriplegia, amputation or total and permanent loss of both arms and legs, the total loss of vision in both eyes and/or severe brain impairment. A combination of the above injuries may also be a catastrophic injury.
Occupier's Liability
An occupier is a person who is in physical possession of the premises, or a person who has responsibility for and control over the condition of premises. This person or persons may be liable for events that occur on their premises.
Injuries from Unsafe Products / Product liability
Product liability is the area of law in which manufacturers, distributors, suppliers, retailers, and others who make products available to the public are held responsible for the injuries those products cause.
Animal Attacks
Owners are people who keep, possess or harbour animals. They are liable for the actions of the animals under their care and control and they may be held responsible for the injuries caused by their animals.
